Everton are keen on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips but can likely only afford a loan deal for the 28-year-old, according to talkSPORT.

The England international has struggled since leaving his childhood club Leeds United back in 2022.

After managing just 914 minutes over the course of one-and-a-half seasons at Manchester City, Phillips went out on loan to West Ham in January this year to revitalise his career.

He struggled badly at the London Stadium though and soon slipped out of the starting eleven.

Phillips could yet again be given a lifeline this summer with Everton showing keen interest in signing him.

Sean Dyche wants a midfielder with Phillips’ characteristics.

However, the Toffees can likely only afford a loan deal for Phillips given their current financial situation.

It now remains to be seen whether the Cityzens would be willing to sanction yet another temporary move for a player who they have deemed surplus to requirements.

Phillips also has a big wage packet, with Manchester City would want covering.

Manchester City still have Phillips tied down with a contract running until the summer of 2028.
