Everton manager Frank Lampard wants to make ‘major improvements’ to his midfield in the January transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Toffees did bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer, but they have not worked out, and some new arrivals are required at Goodison to steer them clear of the relegation zone.

Everton Transfer News – Midfielders

Everton have already started to identify new additions in the centre of the park, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg outlining the Merseyside club as interested in Hoffenheim’s Dennis Geiger, although a deal would be more likely to happen upon the expiration of his contract in the summer of 2023, as per Transfermarkt.

In a more advanced role, Ghanaian World Cup star Mohammed Kudus is a player that has been on Lampard’s radar for quite some time, with Ajax turning down a £15m bid for the 22-year-old in the summer, as per the Independent, although De Telegraaf‘s Mike Verweij indicates Liverpool are now also in the race.

A report emanating from Torino Granata also details that the Toffees may swoop for Torino’s Sasa Lukic, who is unsettled at Torino due to “frictions” in the summer, but Leeds United and Roma are also potential suitors for the wantaway star.

What has Phillips said about Everton?

Phillips claims that Everton may have their eye on a few midfield options in the January transfer window, due to previous signings not being up to par, telling GIVEMESPORT: “They’re sensing opportunities to pick players up on cut-price deals, and the midfield is the main area still where Lampard feels they need major improvements.

They have signed there in the summer but it’s not really working out with some of the signings.

Which signing would improve Everton most?

With Ajax being unwilling to sell Kudus in the summer window, the Toffees missed the opportunity to sign him on a cheaper deal, as his price tag will surely now be inflated further due to his exploits at the World Cup.

The starlet was the best-performing Ghana player in their first two group games, as per SofaScore, but it was the crucial match against South Korea in which he really flourished, scoring twice in the 3-2 victory to keep their hopes of progressing to the last 16 alive.

Journalist Farid Khan lauded the playmaker as “unbelievable” in the wake of the performance, in which he displayed his ability to perform at the highest level, adding to already impressive form with Ajax, where he has completed an average of 4.33 dribbles per 90 over the past year, placing him in the 99th percentile compared to his positional peers, as per FBref.

Interest in the emerging talent will have skyrocketed since his performances at the World Cup, but if Everton can still secure his signature, he would be a fantastic addition, with the firepower to put considerable distance between them and the drop.
