Everton could join Newcastle United in pursuit of Scott McTominay this summer.

The Magpies have previously made their interest clear in the Carrington graduate but saw their advances turned down in the January window, with Manchester United unwilling to sanction his exit midway through the season.

Now that the club are looking to raise funds for new arrivals, Erik ten Hag and the board have compiled a list of players that could depart Old Trafford in the coming months, with McTominay believed to be one.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle and Everton could be the two clubs battling it out for the midfielder’s signature.

McTominay’s potential exit

For McTominay, St. James’ Park is likely his preferred destination, given their qualification for next season’s Champions League.

He would also play a key role in Eddie Howe’s project on Tyneside, which has come into play since the club were taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

With the Toffees, he may be dragged into a relegation scrap if the board do not provide Sean Dyche with quality reinforcements over the window.

A move away from United won’t come easy for the Scotland international, as he has been a Red since 2002.

However, he is well aware that game time isn’t guaranteed under Ten Hag after he saw his minutes significantly slashed with the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen so, career-wise, he’s likely to pursue other ventures.
