Everton target Mohammed Kudus may be ‘passing them by’ due to his outstanding form for club and country this season, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Blues were unsuccessful in their attempts to bring the 22-year-old to Goodison Park over the summer, and he now may have played his way onto the radar of some of Europe’s top teams.
Back in September, The Independent revealed that Everton failed to land Kudus after seeing a £15 million offer rejected by Ajax despite the player subsequently admitting he was keen to make the move.
“I was really close to joining Everton. I thought it was a good project for me and I felt I should try it,” explained the Ghana international on Joy TV.
“It wasn’t like this season was my first (at Ajax), it was my third. So, if I’m not getting the progress I’m looking for, then why not try something else?”
Since then, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has credited Everton’s local rivals Liverpool with an interest in Kudus, although he also stated that there is ‘nothing concrete’ so far.
Jones has disclosed that other elite sides such as Arsenal and Newcastle United are monitoring Kudus’ progress and that he may now be out of reach for Everton.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It feels a little bit like (Cody) Gakpo this one with Leeds and Southampton.
“It’s probably a case of this is one passing them by, there are other clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle that will be keeping an eye on him right now.
“And again, with Kudus, it’s not just the Premier League where he could land, there are four or five other countries that might be considered landing spots.”
10 goals and two assists in 20 appearances for Ajax this season, leading to him being labelled a ‘top player’.
The Black Stars are set to take on Uruguay in their final Group H encounter knowing that even a draw would likely be enough to see them progress to the last 16 of the showpiece event in Qatar.
Kudus’ exploits for Ajax and Ghana may mean he’s now beyond Everton’s grasp, though, which will come as a blow to Frank Lampard.
