Everton forward Simone Magill will be unavailable to feature for Northern Ireland against England at Wembley on Saturday.

Following an injury-plagued start to the new season, the 26-year-old was named in Northern Ireland boss Kenny Shiels’ squad for Saturday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifier, however, The Northern Irish Football Association have this evening informed FAWSL Full-Time that Magill will be unavailable for the match due to a family bereavement.

Northern Ireland are hoping to welcome Magill back to the squad for their second FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying match of the current international window against Austria in Belfast on Tuesday evening.

In other team news, Northern Ireland head coach Shiels is sweating over the fitness of Birmingham City defender Rebecca Holloway ahead of the trip to Wembley. The player is struggling with a knock and has been labelled as having ‘only an extremely slim chance’ of playing against England. Crusaders forward Emily Wilson is also struggling with a knock and faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s game.

Both Northern Ireland and England go into Saturday’s showdown with two wins out of two in FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying. The two sides contested an international friendly match at St George’s Park back in February with England running out 6-0 winners but Northern Ireland go into the latest meeting in good form and they will be keen to make a better account of themselves.
