Everton face legal action from Leicester, Leeds, Southampton and Burnley over alleged breach of spending rules | OneFootball

Everton are reportedly set to face legal action from four English clubs over an alleged breach of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.

According to the Guardian, Leicester City, Leeds United, Southampton and Burnley are taking the Merseyside outfit to court on October 25.

Leicester and Leeds were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the 2022-23 season but Everton survived following their 1-0 success over Bournemouth.

Southampton’s relegation to the second tier had already been confirmed in the middle of May, with the Saints becoming the first team to go down from the top flight.

Burnley suffered the drop at the end of the 2021-22 season but made an immediate return to the Premier League under manager Vincent Kompany.

All four clubs believe they are entitled to compensation from the Toffees if they are found guilty of breaching spending rules.

Burnley and Leeds threatened legal action against Everton at the end of the 2021-22 season.

They questioned whether the Blues had broken the rules after they recorded losses of £371.8 million over a three-year period.

As per the rules, clubs can lose up to £105m over a rolling three-year cycle and can be fined or docked points for not complying.

However, it all came to nothing after the league said the Toffees had complied with the regulations due to allowances made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The charges against Everton were brought again in March after their latest accounts showed they made losses in excess of £300m for the last three years.
