Fans will be buzzing

Rangers fans will be buzzing with this update as it suggests that there is no danger of Patterson leaving to join Everton any time soon. With no mention of any other club lurking around the Scotland international, it appears as though he will remain at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.

Never say never in football, but the Toffees’ pursuit of Ramsay does indicate that Patterson is set to stay at Rangers instead of making a Premier League move in January.

This could give the club the perfect opportunity to try and tie him down to a fresh deal, reaffirming his position with the Gers as a crucial part of their long-term plan. He still has almost three years left to run on his current contract but penning a new deal would allay any fears that he might leave.

Rangers fans will be delighted that Everton are now unlikely to sign him, as he could be an important player for Steven Gerrard’s side moving forward. The club’s head of academy Craig Mulholland once heaped praise on the young defender and hailed him as a great example to other players, saying: “Nathan has been fantastic for us this year.

“Again, we started the project five, six, years ago to get a level of player that we felt could go and compete in the Europa League, could go and compete in Old Firm games.

“And if you go and look at Nathan in the last 16 of the Europa League, if you look at him in the Old Firm game, it’s a great example for all the young players in here of what we’re trying to achieve.”

At the age of 19, Patterson has the potential to improve further and progress as a player under Gerrard’s coaching. This means that he could develop into being a key presence at Ibrox in the future, given that he has also already made 18 first-team appearances and been capped three times by Scotland. Therefore, Gers fans will surely be buzzing that a player with his potential and quality is now poised to stay with the Scottish champions.
