In a recent report, Liverpool Echo mentioned that Everton could reignite their interest in landing Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek on loan in January. It is understood that the Toffees are planning to go back in with a loan offer for the Dutch midfield ace after they failed to sign him on transfer deadline day last summer.

Van de Beek’s Underwhelming Spell In English Football

Van de Beek has endured a frustrating spell with the Red Devils so far as he has failed to secure regular playing minutes under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 24-year-old has only made 39 appearances for the Mancunian outfit so far, scoring just one goal and securing two assists in the process across all fronts.

The ex-Ajax talent has struggled to prove his worth as a regular starter at Old Trafford. Most of his appearances in the previous campaign came as a substitute which explains why he averaged 0.1 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Premier League football. Still, van de Beek was at least tidy with his ball distribution after completing 86.1% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Van de Beek has continued to struggle to earn regular playing minutes at the Theatre of Dreams this season. Thus, the Dutch sensation would be wise to seal a move away from Manchester when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.

Is Van de Beek The Right Choice For The Toffees?

On his day, van de Beek can play an influential role for his team at the centre of the park. The lack of game time has lowered his confidence which could be one of the main reasons why he is struggling to give a good account of himself in English football.

The 19-time Netherlands international is a pure striker of the ball from long range and can get himself into some dangerous areas in the attacking third of the pitch. Everton can benefit a lot from adding someone of van de Beek’s skillset on loan as he will add some much-needed quality to Benitez’s midfield in the second half of this campaign.

Plus, the Dutch midfield ace knows what it takes to play at the highest level, so he could help the Merseyside club push for a place in Europe if Benitez can sign him on loan in January. All in all, van de Beek will be a great choice for the Toffees to pursue this winter.
