In a recent press conference (via Football Italia), Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed that he wants to work with Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira as he said, “I have good memories of him at Real Madrid, he’s a fantastic professional.

“I’d like to work with him, but he wouldn’t be the only one. In my career, I have coached fantastic players, I have good memories of all.

“But there’s a lot between here and to say that they will come to Everton.”

Ancelotti’s comments follow Khedira’s recent revelation that he ‘always dreamed of a move to the Premier League’ (via Football Italia). The former La Liga playmaker is in dire need of more game time if he wants to stay relevant at the highest level.

Khedira’s Diminishing Influence In Italian Football

The Stuttgart-born talent is yet to make an appearance for Juve this season. He was a sporadic presence at the Allianz Stadium in the previous campaign when he featured in 18 matches while picking up just one assist across multiple competitions.

Khedira struggled to be consistent with his performance levels at Turin as he finished the 2019-20 season with an average of 1.2 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in the Serie A. However, the 33-year-old was excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 88.2% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

What Will The German International Bring To Goodison Park?

Standing at 1.89m, Khedira can still be a dominant presence in midfield as he is strong in the air and can make some important tackles for his side. He also has a wide range of passes in his locker and possesses the vision to create some inviting goal-scoring chances for his teammates in the attacking third.

However, at 33, the 77-time German international has lost a yard of pace from his game and is currently a player on the decline. Therefore, Ancelotti should only consider making a move for him if he is willing to use him as a rotational piece in the coming seasons.

Is Khedira A Good Choice For The Toffees?

Despite his poor form last season, Khedira has still got a lot to offer on the field and might bring a winning mindset to the Everton dressing room. The German veteran will be a good short-term option for the Toffees as he will increase competition for places within Ancelotti’s squad.

The likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson,  Tom Davies and Fabian Delph have all struggled to break into the Everton first XI this season, so Khedira will be a significant upgrade over them even though he is edging closer towards the end of his playing career. Plus, the Serie A midfield ace could help the Merseyside club challenge for a trophy or two if Ancelotti decides to lure him to Goodison Park in January or at the end of this campaign.
