Everton manager Jean-Luc Vasseur was delighted with his side’s late equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Walton Hall Park this afternoon.

Simone Magill’s 76th-minute effort cancelled out Ella Toone’s early goal to give new Everton boss Vasseur his first point since taking over on Merseyside a little over a fortnight ago.

Speaking in the post-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Vasseur admitted that he was very happy with his side’s late comeback.

“We’re very happy about the style of the team and the performance,” Vasseur said.

“I think it’s a good result, not the score but I think the performance was nice.”

It was an inspired team talk by Vasseur at half-time, Everton were much better after the break and deserved their equalising goal. The Frenchman said that he liked what he saw in the second half.

“I think we’re starting harder and we’re finishing better. I liked the performance of my team in the second half,” added Vasseur.

“I like it because you’ve always got to believe in the plan and the project. Never giving up is very important.”

While the result for Everton was a relatively good one, it will take time before Vasseur’s philosophy and stance takes it’s toll on the squad. Vasseur highlighted this fact after the match.

“It’s a long project but I want my players to play with more confidence,” he said.

“It’s very important because we can change the face of my team.”

The draw could be the building blocks for Vasseur’s side to go on and start winning games and achieve his aims for this year, however, the Frenchman reiterated the fact that things will take time.

He said “I mentioned to Sky Sports about Alex Ferguson and the fact that it took him five years to win the cup and seven to win the Premier League.

“It was a different game of football at Everton a few weeks’ ago so we need to have time. I said to the media it’s not the revelation, it’s the evolution.”

Everton are back in action again next Sunday when they travel to Leicester City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
