Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he expects Liverpool to come out fighting when the pair contest a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park this evening.

The Blue Girls currently hold the local bragging rights after defeating Liverpool 3-0 in the reverse fixture at Anfield in September. Megan Finnigan, Jess Park and Hanna Bennison were on target for Everton that day.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the latest match, Everton boss Sørensen said that he expects Liverpool to be fired up for the clash.

“Liverpool will be out for the fight after what happened at Anfield,” Sørensen said. “It will be a big game with a big crowd, I don’t think it gets much better. We just hope we can show and expose our style against them and we can get the win.”

Everton teams in general have struggled for derby day victories at Anfield, so it was understandable that there were so many overjoyed faces in the away end six months ago. There is less to separate the two sides going into this evening’s encounter but Sørensen is keen to keep Everton fans smiling.

He said “Hopefully, we can do the same at Goodison and we can make them as happy. It was a special night going there and winning in the way that we did. It wasn’t easy, but it was probably easier than we expected.

“I think they (Liverpool) will be really up for it. The January window has strengthened them, so I think we will see a different Liverpool team and they will be more aggressive against us than they were at Anfield. We will prepare for that and hopefully, the smiles are as big.”

More than 20,000 fans will cheer on the two sides at Goodison Park this evening. Sørensen is looking forward to what promises to be a wonderful occasion for the club.

“Yeah, there has been a lot of hype around it,” Sørensen said. “I saw that they were putting big pictures up on one of the buildings in the docks, that was really nice. I’ve heard we have reached 20,000 tickets, so that’s a good thing.

“We are just looking forward to playing at Goodison Park and in front of our fans against Liverpool, it doesn’t get much better than that.

“We are in a good place, we’ve been happy with the performances. Even though the last couple of games didn’t give us the results that we wanted, the performances have been good. Hopefully, we get the result and also play the football we want to play.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool is scheduled to kick-off at 7.30pm this evening. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
