Ivan Toney's penalty halved Everton's advantage but goals from Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend sealed an emphatic passage to Sunday morning's fifth-round draw.

Lampard received a fabulous welcome from Evertonians, who were singing the former Chelsea player's name long before full-time.

“I can only thank the fans for their support of me from the moment I walked out, through the match, and at the end when they've seen their team perform how they did," said Lampard.

“On a personal level, a huge thank you. From the minute I signed for this club… it has been brilliant and to see that [reception and atmosphere] today was very special.

“It is a day I will never forget.

“It is only the start but I can't help but get caught up in the emotion for a moment.

“I have felt the Goodison effect as a player and we wanted to produce it today, the way the players played and approached the game meant the fans brought into it straight away.

“I want to be the best I can and I think fans want to see their manager giving everything at every moment.

“I want to be there to support the players when they make passes or play through lines or make tackles, or are aggressive and cover distance.

“When Anthony Gordon makes a tackle that leads to a corner that leads to our third goal, those things are special and what we work towards.

“I was proud of the performance and it did get me excited.

“Now I need to calm down and work towards the league games ahead of us.

“But we saw some very nice signs."
