Everton's board showed a "massive failing" by not signing any players in the January window, journalist Paul Brown told GIVEMESPORT.

Sean Dyche's side sit second from bottom in the Premier League and they were the only team in the division not to make a signing last month.

Everton transfer news

When your team is facing its first relegation from the top flight in over 70 years, the last thing you want is for them to stand still in the January transfer window.

Well, that was the case for Everton supporters, who were forced to watch all of their fellow relegation candidates strengthen with new additions.

It wasn't for the lack of trying on Everton's part, with numerous attempts to sign players on deadline day falling on deaf ears.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano told his 13.8 million Twitter followers that Everton had submitted a £45 million bid for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher - a move that was eventually turned down by the player.

Everton were then beaten to the signature of promising forward Kamaldeen Sulemana, with the 20-year-old opting for a £22 million move to the only side below the Toffees in the table, Southampton.

Even as the clock edged closer towards Tuesday's 11pm deadline, Everton were still unable to get deals over the line, with The Athletic reporting a late bid for Ismaila Sarr was rejected by Watford.

Of course, all of this came after primary target Arnaut Danjuma reportedly snubbed Everton, despite having already agreed to join the Merseyside outfit.

And it's because of such poor performances in the transfer market, some have pinned the blame on the already under-fire Everton board.

What has Paul Brown said about Everton's board?

Unimpressed by their ability to conduct themselves in the transfer market, journalist Brown has told GMS that he feels the blame for Everton's lack of signings falls on the board.

On Everton's January window, Brown said: "I think they allowed themselves to miss out on all of the targets they really wanted and left it too late to get any of the alternatives on their list.

"That's a massive failing really from the board in my opinion.”

What next for Everton?

It's hardly the ideal first week on the job for Dyche, who after enduring a torrid deadline day, will now welcome Premier League leaders Arsenal to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon for his first game in charge.

The ex-Burnley chief takes to the Everton hot seat with the Toffees inside the Premier League's bottom three and relegation to the Championship a distinct possibility.

While their on-the-pitch performances have been abject in recent weeks, there has at least been some positive news coming out of Goodison.

Brown recently told GMS in an interview that owner Farhad Moshiri is in talks with a US firm over investment into Everton's new stadium currently being built on the Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Independent claimed the project could cost at least £500 million, with Moshiri keen to land a cash injection for the stadium's construction.
