Everton were victorious at Anfield once again as the Toffees picked up their first win of the campaign in the Merseyside Derby.

Liverpool had started in ferocious speed with Missy Bo Kearns thinking she had given her team the lead at Anfield before seeing the flag go up and the goal ruled out for offside.

Ceri Holland then smashed the underside of the crossbar after winning the ball back at the edge of the area.

But all that early pressure counted for nothing as it was Everton who broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark with Megan Finnigan rising highest at the back post to head home from a corner.

Matt Beard’s side pushed for the equaliser in the second half to no avail, struggling to break down the visitors’ resolve and it was Everton who came close to scoring the next goal.

Katja Snoeijs saw her effort hit the crossbar in the dying minutes as they caught Liverpool on the counter attack.

Liverpool’s perfect start to the season ends while Everton move from the bottom two up the table with a third successive win at Anfield.

Clinton stunner earns Spurs win

Scorers: Terland 8′; Thomas 45+3′, Clinton 65′, Percival 90+4′.

Tottenham came from behind to beat Brighton and Hove Albion thanks to Grace Clinton’s piledriver.

The hosts had taken the lead at the AMEX Stadium when Elisabeth Terland lost her marker to get on to the end of Maisie Symonds’ corner and glance a header into the far corner.

But Spurs levelled with the last kick of the first half with Drew Spence’s curler smashing the crossbar allowing for Martha Thomas to pounce on the rebound to drill past Nicky Evrard.

The second period descended into a tight and tentative game until the visitors sprung into the lead out of nothing.

Clinton found the ball around 25 yards out before turning and unleashing a speculative effort which flew past Evrard and dipped under the crossbar.

Spurs scored at the end of the first half and even managed it right at the end of the second with Ria Percival wrapping the game up in stoppage time.

That win is Tottenham’s second of the season and sees them shoot up to fourth in the table.

Gunners leave it late

Scorers: McCabe 90′, Russo 90+4′; Pacheco 25′

Arsenal grabbed two goals in stoppage time to beat Aston Villa 2-1.

In front of a huge Emirates crowd the Gunners flew out of the blocks with Alessia Russo going close early on.

The north London side were enjoying the majority of the ball but the home crowd were silenced on 25 minutes as Maz Pacheco headed in at the back post for Villa.

Jonas Eidvall’s side came out for the second half and went hell for leather trying to get an equaliser.

Villa though, always looked relatively comfortable in defence with none of the Arsenal attackers really able to impose themselves on the game.

Beth Mead made her long-awaited return to the game nearly a year after injuring her ACL as she joined the action with five minutes of normal time to go.

But it was Katie MacCabe who made the breakthrough in added time as the Ireland international fired in from a tight angle to equalise.

And then in the fourth minute of injury time, Russo found herself in space on the edge of the area and fired in a low finish to win the game for Arsenal.

Five-star City blow Robins away

Scorers: Roord 9′ 45′; Aleixandri 33′, Shaw 38′ 45+6′

Manchester City beat Bristol City 5-0 on Sunday with all of the goals coming in a sensational first half.

It took City just nine minutes to open the scoring as Jill Roord tapped in after good work from Bunny Shaw.

Laia Aleixandri was next on the scoresheet for the Citizens on 33 minutes before Shaw got their third on 38 minutes.

With eight minutes of stoppage time added to the first half, City made hay as first Roord headed her second of the afternoon before Shaw did the same.

The hosts had completely savaged the Robins in the first half and naturally came out for the second period with their foot slightly off the gas.

Despite a few more efforts on goal, City couldn’t add to their tally but came away with a brilliant win.

Leicester ruin Earps’ big day

Scorers: Le Tissier 66′; Whelan 60′

Manchester United came from behind to draw 1-1 with early season surprise package Leicester.

It was all United in the first half with Nikita Parris, Lucia Garcia and Katie Zelem all going close to opening the scoring.

But the Foxes stayed resolute at the back and got to the break with the deadlock still yet to be broken.

Into the second half and on her 100th appearance for the club, Mary Earps couldn’t stop Aileen Whelan from tapping in at the back post on the hour mark.

Leicester’s lead lasted only six minutes however as Maya Le Tissier headed in from a corner.
