There were five Premier League clashes on Saturday with Manchester City, Newcastle and Chelsea all in action.
Here’s what went down.
Scorers: Onana 19′, Keane 25′.
Everton eased past Burnley to move seven points clear of the relegation zone on Sean Dyche’s return to Turf Moor.
James Trafford had pulled off a stunning save to keep out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal-bound header from close range but the Burnley goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about the resulting corner as Amadou Onana beat him in the air to head the Toffees into the lead.
Michael Keane, another making his return to Burnley, doubled that advantage six minutes later after finishing off the rebound from his own shot from six yards out.
The hosts thought they’d got one back before the break when Vitinho’s ball across goal looked certain to be tapped in until Ben Godfrey managed to clear it from underneath his crossbar.
Vincent Kompany’s men pushed for a way back into the game in the second half and came close when Sander Berge curled a shot from the edge of the box against the crossbar but their efforts were in vain.
Burnley remain second bottom after an eighth home defeat so far this season while Everton move seven points clear of the relegation zone after a fourth straight win without conceding a goal.
Scorers: Grealish 24′, Lewis 54′; Mateta 76′, Olise (PEN) 90+5′
Late drama saw Crystal Palace dent Manchester City’s Premier League title defence before heading off to Club World Cup involvement.
The hosts broke the deadlock when Phil Foden teed up Jack Grealish with a defence-splitting pass for the forward’s third consecutive top-flight goal.
Pep Guardiola’s side appeared to have doubled their lead through Julián Álvarez before it was chalked off by VAR for offside against Rodri.
Less than two minutes later, the reigning champions consolidated that advantage with Rico Lewis drilling home his first goal for the club.
But the Eagles set up a potentially nervy finale as Jean-Philippe Mateta reduced their deficit courtesy of a sliding finish from Jeffrey Schlupp’s cutback.
Deep in stoppage time, City were undone as Foden conceded a penalty against Mateta from which Michel Olise stepped up to snatch the spoils.
Scorers: Adebayo 3′; Solanke 57′
Bournemouth’s game with Luton Town was suspended following a medical emergency involving Tom Lockyer.
Elijah Adebayo had handed the Premier League newcomers an early lead by meeting Alfie Doughty’s third-minute corner at the far post.
That opener also made him the Hatters’ first player since Mick Harford in 1992 to score in three consecutive top-flight fixtures.
Andoni Iraola’s side struck back in the second half through Dominic Solanke sweeping home from a half-cleared corner.
But play was suspended as Luton captain Lockyer appeared to collapse in the middle of the pitch and he received extensive medical attention.
Scorers: Palmer 54′, Jackson 61′
Chelsea arrested a run of back-to-back Premier League defeats to down relegation strugglers Sheffield United.
Nicolas Jackson went closest to threatening for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the first half but was thwarted by Wes Foderingham’s sliding block on the edge of his area.
But the Blues finally engineered a breakthrough following the interval as Raheem Sterling teed up Cole Palmer for his sixth goal of the season by firing home from close -range.
Seven minutes later, the hosts went further ahead through Jackson bundled the ball home as the Blades failed to clear their lines from Palmer’s low cross.
Scorers: Miley 57′, Almirón 64′, Burn 82′
Newcastle comfortably disposed of Fulham to return to the Premier League’s top six places.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half as Raúl Jiménez’s foul on Sean Longstaff was upgraded to a red card by VAR.
Eddie Howe’s already depleted side suffered fresh injury blows with Joelinton and Fabian Schär limping out during the opening 45 minutes at St James’ Park.
But they finally broke the Cottagers’ resolve midway through the second half as Lewis Miley plundered his first senior goal with a sweeping finish inside the area.
Miguel Almirón doubled his side’s lead just seven minutes later with a poacher’s finish amid confusion over a potential offside in the build-up.
The Magpies went further ahead when Dan Burn met Bruno Guimarães floated cross to the far post and turned it in after Bernd Leno fumbled his initial effort.
