Everton are battling with Marseille for the signature of Rennes full-back Lorenz Assignon.
Sean Dyche is keen to do business in the remaining hours of the window and multiple irons are in the fire at Goodison.
Everton want to bring in midfielder Orel Mangala from Lyon on an initial loan, while Neal Maupay is in line to be sold to Marseille.
While Marseille and Everton are talking on friendly terms about the Maupay deal, elsewhere they are competitors.
Talks between both clubs and Rennes are happening about defender Assignon, according to French radio station RMC.
The discussions on the table are centring around a loan deal with an option to buy.
Assignon operates as a right-back for Rennes and they are ready to consider letting him go if the deal on the table is the right one.
He would not be new to the Premier League scene as he spent the second half of last season on loan at Burnley and even faced Everton at Goodison Park in a 1-0 loss for the Clarets.
