In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Everton are showing interest in Leeds United keeper Joel Robles. It has been claimed that the Toffees are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Spanish custodian this summer.

Robles’ Limited Game Time At Elland Road This Season

Robles played a sporadic role for the West Yorkshire club as he often found himself behind Illan Meslier in their pecking order. The 32-year-old was involved in six matches for Leeds this season, conceding 18 goals in the process across multiple competitions.

The Getafe-born talent has done well to average 2.0 clearances and 5.5 long balls per game in the Premier League. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution as he has completed only 42.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Elland Road is set to expire at the end of this month which could open the door for the Toffees to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

What Will Robles Bring To Everton?

Robles is a good handler of the ball and has got decent reflexes that help him make a few solid stops at the back. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can use his towering 1.97m to dominate the opposition in the air. However, the Leeds United keeper needs to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to be a success story at a club like Everton.

The Toffees can definitely use someone with Robles’ skillset to bolster their squad in the summer. However, the Merseyside club should only consider him as an understudy to Jordan Pickford as the Spaniard is not good enough to feature for them in the Premier League week in week out.

At 32, Robles will only serve as a good, short-term signing for Everton boss Sean Dyche as he could help the Toffees challenge across all competitions over the next couple of years.

We can expect him to bring more depth to Everton‘s backline and increase competition for places within Dyche’s match-day squad. Therefore, the Merseysiders should try everything they can to lure Robles to Goodison Park this summer.
