In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Everton are locked in a three-way battle for Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer. It has been stated that the Toffees would have to rival Newcastle United and Crystal Palace in the race to land the English wide player this summer.

McAteer is having a decent campaign at the East Midlands club as he managed to put in a string of eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net seven times in 26 matches for Leicester this season in various competitions.

The English talent has caught the eye at times with his offensive contributions and deserves credit for averaging 1.4 shots and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been careful when distributing possession from the wide areas after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Leicester will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for the Toffees to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Move In For McAteer?

McAteer can create some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can strike the ball with power from long range and is a good dribbler as well. The English attacker mainly operates as a right-winger but can also serve as a left-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can prove his worth in Premier League football if the Toffees manage to get him on board later this year.

McAteer would bring more goals to Everton‘s frontline. He might even help the Merseyside club compete across all fronts in the coming years. At 22, the future looks quite promising for McAteer, so the English outfit should focus on moving in for him at the end of this season.

McAteer would be a great fit for Everton’s needs in the long run. Hence, it makes sense for the Toffees to seal a cut-price move for him soon.
