In a recent report, Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Everton are eyeing a move for Hull City defender Jacob Greaves. It has been claimed that the Toffees have identified him as a replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite who could leave the Premier League club at the end of this season.

Greaves’ Impressive Run Of Form At Hull City This Season

Greaves is having a decent campaign at the English club as he has managed to put in a string of solid performances for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old has netted two goals and grabbed four assists in 36 matches for Hull this season across various competitions.

The English centre-back deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game in the EFL Championship. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from the back after making 89% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the English club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Everton would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing Greaves in the upcoming transfer window.

What Will Greaves Add To Everton Boss Sean Dyche’s Side?

Greaves is a tough-tackling central defender who can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his robust 1.93m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. The English talent excels at playing his way out from the back. He mainly operates as a centre-half but can also serve as a left-back if told to do so.

We can expect Greaves to add more quality to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s backline. He is good enough to act as an ideal replacement for Jarrod Branthwaite if the Merseyside club ends up losing their star defender this summer.

At 23, there is still a lot of room for improvement in Greaves’ game. However, there is no doubt that he has the skill set to challenge for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park in the coming seasons. However, there are some concerns over whether the English defensive ace can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
