Everton and Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League qualification were dented as they played out an eventful 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on Friday night.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Harry Kane both bagged a brace for their teams as neither side managed to make significant ground on the top four.

Scorers: Sigurdsson 31‘, 62′; Kane 27′, 68′.

Harry Kane fired Tottenham in front after 27 minutes with a left-footed half volley after Michael Keane inadvertently flicked Tanguy Ndombele’s cross into his path.

The lead did not last long however, as the hosts were awarded a penalty after Sergio Reguilón pushed James Rodríguez over in the box.

Gylfi Sigurdsson sent Hugo Lloris to level proceedings from the spot.

The Toffees found themselves on top for the opening stages of the second half and it was Sigurdsson who found the net again to put Carlo Ancelotti’s side ahead.

Seamus Coleman’s low cross found the Icelandic midfielder at the edge of the box and he produced a stunning left-footed half-volley into the top corner.

It was Tottenham’s return to react quick and they equalised just six minutes later – courtesy of a gift from their hosts.

Michael Keane and Mason Holgate collided with each other in the box which left the ball to fall into the path of Kane who made no mistake with another well-taken finish.

Richarlison spurned a golden chance to nick it late on for Everton when he blazed a rebound from Josh King’s parried shot well over the bar from inside the area.

José Mourinho will be sweating on the fitness of his goalscorer as Kane had to be taken off in stoppage time after limping off with an injury.

Spurs remain in seventh, five points off the top four while Everton and a place and a point further back.
