In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Everton are among clubs hoping to land Olympiacos defender Pape Abou Cissé. It has been mentioned that the Toffees are keeping tabs on the Senegalese centre-back’s performances in Europe ahead of a potential move in the future.

Cisse’s Excellent Form In Europe This Season

Cisse has already put in some commanding displays at the back for the Greek outfit so far in this campaign. The 26-year-old registered two goals in 13 matches for his current club this season, scoring two goals in the process across various competitions.

The 26-year-old has caught the eye in Europe after averaging 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 6.5 clearances per game in the UEFA Europa League. Cisse has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 81.8% in the competition (stats via whoscored).

The Everton scouts have every reason to be content with what they have seen from him in European football this season. Hence, Rafael Benitez would be wise to orchestrate a move to bring Cisse to the blue half of Merseyside this winter or at the end of this campaign.

What Will Cisse Bring To Goodison Park?

Cisse loves a tackle and can scan the danger quickly to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t take too many risks with his clearances and can use his robust 1.98m frame to dominate the opposition in the air. The Pikine-born defensive ace can also chip in by scoring the odd goal as he is a potent aerial threat from indirect set-pieces.

We can expect Cisse to bring plenty of bite and steel to Benitez’s defensive department at Goodison Park. He will even offer some serious competition for Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.

At 26, Cisse is about to enter his prime, so Everton can expect to make the most out of his services if they can get a deal over the line for him next year. Still, there are some concerns over whether the Senegalese defender can maintain his good form in English football every week. Either way, the pros outweigh the cons of signing him which makes him an ideal signing for the Toffees to pursue in the not-too-distant future.
