Everton winger Anthony Gordon will likely have clauses inserted into any new contract signed at Goodison Park to ensure he is still able to leave if an adequate offer came in, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Gordon was the subject of plenty of speculation during the summer window but remained a Toffees player beyond the deadline in a big boost to Frank Lampard’s side.

Chelsea held a strong interest in signing the 21-year-old in the transfer window, submitting a final offer of up to £60 million for his services.

Gordon himself was understood to be keen to swap Merseyside for west London but Everton held firm, sticking to their word that the academy graduate was not for sale.

He has made a bright start to the new season too, scoring twice in the club’s opening six Premier League games, taking him halfway to his tally for last term already.

Lampard recently confirmed that the club would open talks with the player’s representatives over a new deal.

It is understood the offer put forward by Everton will see Gordon earn £60,000 per week, six times his current wage.

After losing Richarlison to Tottenham in a deal worth £60 million since the end of last season, the club are understandably eager to ensure another bright attacking talent does not slip away.

What has Jones said on the situation?

Jones believes that any new deal signed by Gordon at Everton will include clauses that could still see him sold in the middle of his contract.

The journalist hints that the forward will be eager to ensure he is not stuck at Everton should interest mount in him once again.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “The contract would include clauses so that if a bigger team does come in for him with an acceptable offer, he is not stuck at Everton and will still be able to leave.”

Should this worry Everton?

Fans will have breathed a huge sigh of relief when the summer deadline passed having clung onto their talisman for a few more months at least.

Given Gordon’s stance in the summer, it is perhaps not too much of a surprise that his new deal will have stipulations inserted into it, but there is no reason this cannot work for the club too.

It may give Everton a chance to insert a buy-out clause at a value they deem to be suitable, insuring that their star is only sold for what they believe him to be worth.
