Everton manager Frank Lampard has received criticism for poor performances in recent weeks, and David Moyes may be considered as a possible replacement, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees signed off before the break for the World Cup with consecutive away defeats to Bournemouth, while Moyes is under pressure at West Ham, with his side currently 16th in the table.

What is the latest news involving Lampard?

Lampard appears to be walking a tightrope in his role as manager, owing to poor performances in recent weeks which leave the club 17th in the standings, just one point above the relegation zone.

It has been reported by Football Insider that the Everton hierarchy have already discussed potential replacements for the former Chelsea man, with Marcelo Bielsa at one point being considered an option.

The Daily Mail indicate that the 44-year-old is still in the firing line at Goodison, but highlight that his cause has not been helped by the lack of a striker that can score goals, and this issue must be addressed in the January transfer window.

It seems as if Lampard will have a little while longer to prove himself up to the task, as he recently managed the side in the Sydney Cup against Celtic, a game that finished 0-0, with Everton winning on penalties.

What has Jones said about Lampard?

Jones highlights the tenuous situation Moyes finds himself in as manager at West Ham as a possible factor in a reunion with former club Everton, telling GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously Lampard is still there for the time being, we don’t know how long that is going to drag out for.

But I’d consider too, David Moyes’ situation isn’t certain at West Ham, is it impossible for him to return to Everton? I’m sure after everything the fans have been through, there are some that might even welcome him back.

Would Moyes be a good appointment for Everton?

The Scot struggled at Manchester United after making the switch to Old Trafford following over 11 years at Everton, however his previous success on Merseyside, and with West Ham, means that he would be the perfect appointment to alleviate the situation that the Toffees now find themselves in.

When the 59-year-old took charge at the London Stadium in his second spell, Manuel Pellegrini had left the team 17th in the table, identical to Everton’s current league position, and he instigated a remarkable change in fortunes, qualifying for Europe two seasons on the spin.

Furthermore, with limited financial resources last time around at Goodison, Moyes not only preserved their Premier League status, but made Everton competitive, finishing fourth in the table in the 2004/05 season to seal a Champions League qualifying berth.

As such, if the opportunity becomes available in the near future, owner Farhad Moshiri should have no qualms about appointing Moyes for a second spell.
