Everton's offer for Watford forward Ismaila Sarr wasn't enticing enough for a deal to go through, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Toffees have missed out on a number of players on deadline day and now look set to finish the January transfer window without making any additions.

Everton have been in the market for a forward today but none of their pursuits have paid off.

They reportedly explored a deal for Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi, formerly of Chelsea, but the Belgium international is enjoying life at the Turkish club.

There are also claims Everton moved to sign Olivier Giroud from AC Milan, with his contract at the San Siro due to expire at the end of the season.

Once again, however, the Toffees discovered their target had little interest in a move to Goodison Park.

And it seems the Merseysiders have struck out on a third occasion, this time with Sarr.

According to The Athletic, Watford rejected an offer of £2m to take Sarr on loan for the rest of the season with a £30m obligation to buy should the Toffees stay in the Premier League and a £4m appearance bonus.

Sarr has been crucial to the Hornets' promotion bid this season, bagging seven goals and five assists in the Championship.

What has Dean Jones said about Everton and Ismalia Sarr?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones suggested that Everton failed to make a proposal enticing enough to convince Watford to part with Sarr at this stage.

He told GMS: "Everton's offer just wasn't enticing enough to force Watford to let him go - it's the same story we've been talking about all day. Money talks and they don't have it right now."

A naive offer from Everton?

Very much so. If Watford aren't promoted this season, it's more than likely they'll have to cash in on Sarr during the summer when his contract enters its final year.

So would £2m to £6m, depending on the finer details of the appearance clause, really be worth Watford hampering their own chances of Premier League football by parting with a key player for the rest of the campaign, when they might have to sell him in six months anyway?

As Jones alluded to, the simple fact is Everton don't have the money to get big deals over the line right now.

That being said, you have to wonder whether suggesting this kind of agreement to Watford was even worth their time on what must have been a frantic deadline day.

It's also a little concerning that Batshuayi, Giroud and Sarr are all very different types of forward, which makes you wonder whether there's any kind of plan at Goodison or if they're simply trying to bring in anyone who might be available.
