Everton target Kamaldeen Sulemana is a ‘good alternative’ to Arnaut Danjuma as Sean Dyche looks to make his first signing in the Goodison Park dugout, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Toffees missed out on completing Danjuma’s loan acquisition from Villarreal as Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the move, but reinforcements can still be drafted in ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Everton transfer news – Kamaldeen Sulemana

According to The Athletic, Everton made a verbal offer for Sulemana on Sunday and the Merseyside outfit are still waiting for a response from French side Rennes.

The report suggests the Ghana international is keen to leave his current employers, who value him in the region of £27million, ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

Dyche, who has been appointed as Everton’s new manager after Frank Lampard’s sacking last week, now has money to play with after Anthony Gordon completed a £45million switch to Newcastle United.

Respected journalist Jones recently told GiveMeSport that the Toffees have made inroads with Sulemana’s representatives as they look to get a deal over the line, while it has emerged that he has told Rennes he wants to head to Goodison Park.

What has Dean Jones said about Sulemana?

Jones believes Sulemana could be next on Everton’s list of wide targets after being frustrated in their efforts to land Danjuma.

The transfer insider feels the Toffees cannot afford to rest on their laurels after being beaten to the punch by Tottenham.

When asked about Everton’s interest in Sulemana, Jones told GiveMeSport: “He seems to be a good alternative for them.

“They’ve obviously been burnt by what’s happened with Danjuma. They’ve got to move on quickly from that.”

Would Sulemana be a good signing for Everton?

It could be argued that Sulemana would be an upgrade on Gordon as FBref statistics show he has averaged more goals, shots and interceptions per 90 minutes this season.

The 20-year-old has only been afforded 536 minutes of action since the campaign got underway, but he has still made an impact by finding the back of the net once and registering a further two assists for Rennes.

Sulemana showed he is potent in the final third of the pitch prior to heading to France, having chalked up 22 goal contributions in 43 appearances for FC Nordsjaelland.

Sofascore data shows the Ghanaian has created two big chances in Ligue 1 this term, while his pace would also cause problems for Premier League defenders if he joins Everton.

Sulemana was the fastest player at the World Cup, thanks to recording a top speed of 22.18mph during his country’s final group stage clash with Uruguay, and the Toffees should do all they can to strike a deal.
