Inter Milan may have outdone even one of their craziest ever matches for late drama with yesterday’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, compare the match to the 3-2 win over Sampdoria in 2005.

Inter are not strangers to late drama. It is part of the “Pazza Inter” reputation that the club have forged over the years.

One of the most iconic examples of this came in 2005.

In that match, at home to Sampdoria, found themselves 0-2 down as stoppage time neared.

The Blucerchiati had scored in the 83rd minute of that match to double their advantage.

And as the minutes ticked down, the hope of even snatching a draw was certainly fading for Inter. Let alone some how coming back to win.

But the Nerazzurri scored three times to make it 3-2. Obafemi Martins, Christian Vieri, and Alvaro Recoba got on the scoresheet in the space of just a few minutes just before, and then after the ninetieth minute.

Was Inter Win Vs Verona Crazier Than Sampdoria 2005?

The ending to yesterday’s match did not have as many goals as that win over Sampdoria.

But it had just about everything else.

There was one goal. Davide Frattesi struck in the 93rd minute to give Inter their lead back after they had conceded an equalizer during the second half.

There was significant controversy surrounding the 24-year-old’s goal.

This came in the form of Verona players pleading for Inter’s goal to be disallowed for an apparent Alessandro Bastoni shove on Ondrej Duda in the buildup.

During these heated moments, Gialloblu vice-captain Darko Lazovic evidently went too far in his protests to the referee. He received a straight red card.

At ten men – surely Verona were not going to score another equalizer.

But the Gialloblu received a lifeline in the form of a last-gasp penalty.

Thomas Henry had already scored one equalizer for Verona. And the Frenchman had a golden opportunity to score another.

But Henry hit the post with his effort.

It was the last abrupt twist in an emotional rollercoaster, all of which took place after the ninetieth minute had ellapsed.
