In some great news for France's FIFA coeffficent - the running calculation based on European and other results that is used to determine seeding in a variety of competitions - Ligue 1 Uber Eats' European representatives outdid themselves on Thursday night, winning (or drawing) through to further continental challenges. Volland is back!
Monaco were the first to follow PSG into the next round of European competition as a hat-trick from fit-again Germany striker Kevin Volland powered Philippe Clément's men to a 4-1 win over Red Star Belgrade at the Stade Louis II.
This stunning display took Monaco to second place in their group, qualifying them for the Play-offs, where they will face a side that finished third in their Champions League group and was relegated to the Europa League (Ajax, Barcelona, Juventus, Leverkusen, Salzburg, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting CP). Four from four!
As will Nantes, for whom strikes from Mostafa Mohamed and Ludovic Blas secured a 2-0 win away to Olympiakos, while Rennes (1-1 draw with AEK Larnaca, Matthis Abline 17') and will follow suit. Meanwhile OGC Nice came up trumps in their all-important trip to Cologne, where Dante and co. secured a dramatic 2-2 draw thanks to a quick-fire pair of goals from Gaëtan Laborde (40') and Bilal Brahimi (43'). Cologne found a way to level it up by the end of 90 minutes but that wasn't enough to knock Les Aiglons off top spot in the group, which they had clinched thanks to Partizan Belgrade's 1-1 draw with Slovak in the group's other match. Busy busy busy
The draw for the Play-offs and the rounds of 16 will be held along with the Champions League draw on Monday 7 November, with the Play-offs contested on 16 and 23 February and the rounds of 16 played on 9 and 16 March 2023. All four clubs will have to dust themselves off and get back to work again right away as there is a final round of Ligue 1 Uber Eats matches to be contested this weekend before France's top flight goes into hiatus for the World Cup!
