The European Super League is an idea that just will not go away.

In 2021, the controversial proposal by the continent's elite clubs caused widespread uproar and ultimately, the whole thing collapsed within a matter of days.

The power of football fans won, but all of us knew it was never going to the finale of the European Super League saga.

And on February 9th of this year, it was officially announced the project would be looking to move in a new direction.

Up to 80 teams could be included in a major reboot and there would reportedly be no permanent members. Instead, the competition would be solely based on sporting achievement, unlike the original proposal.

Despite the change in tactic, most fans are still vehemently against the idea of a European Super League.

But one man who is certainly coming around to the idea is Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos.

In the latest episode of his podcast, Einfach mal Luppen’, Kroos voiced his support for the new-look European Super League and took various swipes at European football's governing body, UEFA.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, the architect of the whole thing, will absolutely adore the words from one of his most reliable players.

“I think we will see the Super League," Kroos said, per AS. "And I believe so for several reasons. The idea of the Super League has changed and deserves to be heard.

"If you look carefully from both angles, you will see that UEFA is by no means a great Samaritan for football fans and that the Super League has no plans, at least in the second attempt, to exclude any team, because there will be no permanent founding members.

"It is a sports competition, an open tournament, but managed by the clubs and not by UEFA, because these clubs believe that they do not need UEFA for that. I think this deserves at least one chance."

Kroos then lined up his linguistic crosshairs on UEFA, slamming them for introducing the Nations League.

“I think we have only heard the UEFA side, and too often in my opinion," Kroos continued.

"Why is it ok for UEFA to introduce a Nations League that no one needs? Suddenly no one asks them about it. That’s why I think it’s incredibly important to listen to other proposals like the Super League. I get the feeling that we are no longer being listened to."

Kroos then switched focus back to the European Super League, listing more reasons why it could be a good thing for football as a whole.

“Although we have already talked about the loss of passion for football, I believe that the Super League has the opportunity to reverse that situation," the German maestro added.

"Let there be more enthusiasm and emotion for the games that we will be able to see. Because in the end, let’s not fool ourselves, many people always say: ‘Who wants to see Real Madrid against Manchester City every week?’ But have you gotten tired of watching Federer against Nadal over and over again?

"I don’t. That’s my opinion. I think we can attract the fans and get them back to football, and it could also bring a completely different enthusiasm to the neutral fan. Because these matches are not only watched by the supporters of the clubs, but also by neutral fans.

"And I think that, with the feeling that interest in football is waning, we would have the opportunity to increase all that again if we seriously addressed it."

Well, you certainly can't say Kroos wasn't honest on the podcast.

We get the feeling most will not share his opinion, though...
