Barcelona have reportedly made the first move to try and sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from AS Roma this summer, with Liverpool also linked with an interest in the player.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, both Barcelona and Liverpool want to sign the player – as well as Atletico Madrid – but it is the Catalan giants that have made the first move in terms of trying to initiate and set-up a tranfer.
They claim that they’ve started talks with Roma over a potential deal for the midfielder, whilst Liverpool are still just monitoring things and have yet to decide to make a bid in earnest.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Beating Barcelona to another midfielder after seeing Gini Wijnaldum snub them at the final moment would be quite funny but it needs to work for Liverpool first and foremost.
If the Reds are yet to decide whether they want to make an attempt to sign the Italian international and Barcelona have indeed made contact, then you’d argue, of course, they are leading the race to get him.
Other midfielders are being linked with Liverpool too, though, and so it remains to be seen if Pellegrini ends up being a top target.
