Transfer News: Manchester United brace as PSG ready bid for Paul Pogba

According to The Athletic (h/t Daily Mail), Paris Saint-Germain have opened talks with the entourage of Manchester United star Paul Pogba over a potential transfer this summer.

The 28-year-old is on his day one of the finest talents in world football. He is however in the final year of his United contract and has shown little inclination to pen fresh terms. The club’s record signing, the prospect of seeing him walk away for free next year is a jarring thought.

Pogba’s representatives have now talked to PSG and are exploring whether a move to the Parc des Princes is possible this summer. Doing so would cap off an excellent window for the French giants who have already landed Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Danilo Pereira.

Currently on holiday in Florida, the player is relaxing after his exertions with France at this summer’s Euros. He was one of the brightest stars for Les Bleus in what was ultimately a disappointing campaign for them. With the new season only a little more than two weeks away, a decision regarding his future needs to be made.

The Red Devils clearly want to keep the player and have offered him a lucrative long-term deal worth £50m. Pogba has however rejected it in what has so far been the strongest indicator of his preferences.

Having already landed Jadon Sancho and on the verge of signing Raphael Varane, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have welcomed the opportunity to keep hold of Pogba as well. It would have given the Norwegian more options in what is looking more and more like a star-studded team.

A parting of the ways could be on the cards

The United players are well aware of what Pogba brings to the table and are working behind the scenes to convince him to stay put. Pogba is also a popular figure away from the pitch. The 28-year-old is a role model for the young talents at Old Trafford, who look up to him for inspiration.

Selling Pogba this summer is the better alternative to losing him for free in a year’s time. Moreover, the transfer fee brought in will aid us in further reinforcing our squad this summer.

While he hasn’t always impressed in a red jersey, Pogba on his day is a joy to watch. Losing him will leave the club with the unenvious task of replacing him with a player of similar ability. A task easier said than done.
