Inter Milan will be in the first pot for seeding the league phase of the 2024-25 edition of the Champions League.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Nerazzurri’s seeding position is based on their UEFA club coefficient.

It has long been certain that Inter will be participating in next season’s Champions League.

The Nerazzurri have sewn up a top four finish in the Serie A table for weeks now.

Naturally, that is a massive priority for Inter.

That was the case last season, when the Nerazzurri needed a very strong end to the season to ensure their qualification for Europe’s top club competition after months of erratic form.

Had Inter missed out, it would have caused major headaches financially, among other issues.

This season, on the other hand, Inter have been dominant in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri are Italian champions. They have therefore looked certain to qualify for next season’s Champions League for much of the current campaign.

And the Nerazzurri can also enjoy the potential boost of being in the first pot for the seeding of the league phase of next season’s Champions League.

The format change has also changed the manner in which teams are allocated into pots. Previously, the winners of Europe’s major leagues had a place in pot one.

Therefore, Inter for example would have been guaranteed a place in pot one under the old system.

However, moving forward UEFA will base the seeding entirely on club coefficient.

But that’s not a problem for Inter. The Nerazzurri currently have the sixth highest UEFA club coefficient.

Therefore, unlike in the last couple of seasons, Inter can count on a theoretically favourable draw.

There would be the benefit of avoiding many of Europe’s heavy-hitters.

And in fact, from the standpoint of other teams in the competition, it is Inter who are heavy-hitters.
