Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most exciting players in European football in recent years.
Currently plying his trade for Sporting CP, the Swedish forward has been exceptionally productive in front of goal. In just 67 competitive matches for Sporting, the forward has racked up a whopping 66 goals.
This season alone, Gyokeres has racked up 23 goals in 17 matches, thus cementing his place as one of the best strikers in Europe.
According to Fichajes, Gyokeres’ performances in front of goal have not gone unnoticed, with even Barcelona emerging as one of the potential suitors.
It appears the Catalans are closely tracking the progress of the Swedish international, as part of their plan to find a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona, in fact, have started the hunt for a Lewandowski successor for a while now and have been linked with several other strikers across Europe, including Jonathan David.
However, one would argue that Gyokeres would be an upgrade over David. At just 26, the Swede is in the peak of his powers and could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Barça.
However, acquiring Gyokeres’ services won’t be easy. Sporting are aware of the interest the player has generated across Europe and are likely to hold out for a hefty price tag.
Barcelona, therefore, must come up with a lucrative offer if they are to get their hands on the 26-year-old next season.
But whether or not that will be feasible under the current economic conditions, remains to be seen.
