Newcastle United are set to pocket a significant windfall as European clubs line up to sign defender Lloyd Kelly.

Kelly joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth last summer.

At the time, it seemed like a major coup for the Magpies, given the widespread interest in the centre-back.

However, Kelly has struggled to make a lasting impression at St. James’ Park this season, and there’s a decent chance he could leave the club in the next few days.

Newcastle want to bolster key areas in their squad, but they need to raise funds through player sales to avoid breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The 26-year-old has featured just 13 times across all competitions this season.

He has only gotten 298 minutes of first-team action in the Premier League and would welcome a chance to pursue regular playing time elsewhere.

Interested parties are weighing up the possibility of a loan move for Kelly, but Newcastle will only consider cutting him loose on a permanent deal.

The centre-half is valued at €18 million (£15m) on Transfermarkt, but it remains to be seen if a bid in that region will be enough for Newcastle to sell.

If a deal materialises over the next few days, the Magpies could pocket a significant profit from a player who cost them nothing in transfer fees just last summer.

Kelly has also been linked with a move to Fenerbahce, although Jose Mourinho’s side are yet to make a formal bid.
