PSG consider signing Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri

According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are considering making a swoop for Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri in the current transfer window.

Emerson arrived at Chelsea from Italian outfit AS Roma in January 2018. However, he has struggled to carve out a regular starting berth for himself at Stamford Bridge.

With Ben Chilwell joining from Leicester City, the Italian international’s first-team opportunities are set to take a further hit. And, Chelsea have been looking to offload the Italian this summer and generate transfer funds.

There has been interest from Italy, with Inter Milan and Napoli keen on signing him this summer. Now, PSG too seem to have entered the race for the left-back, and are considering making a move for him. (h/t Football.london)

Considering that Frank Lampard didn’t even pick Emerson in the matchday squad against Brighton, despite Chilwell missing with injury is a clear indicator of the Italian’s standing at the club.

And considering that he is not part of the plans going forward, the club needs to find a buyer for him at the earliest. Given that we have spent heavily this summer, offloading players like Emerson ought to help balance the books to some extent.

It will be interesting to see if PSG do follow up on their reported interest in the Italian international.
