Highlights

  1. West Brom youngster Tom Fellows is attracting interest from Augsburg and Werder Bremen, along with Leicester and Southampton.
  2. Fellows has returned to West Brom after a successful loan spell at Crawley Town and has made six league appearances this season.
  3. Fellows' contract expires in 2024, and clubs in Germany could make a pre-contract agreement with him in January, potentially accelerating his move away from West Brom.

Augsburg and Werder Bremen are the latest clubs to show an interest in West Brom youngster Tom Fellows.

Who is Tom Fellows?

The 20-year-old, who can play in different attacking positions, has been with the Baggies since he was a kid, and he is highly-rated by all at The Hawthorns.

Fellows made his Albion debut back in 2021, but he went out on loan to Crawley Town to get regular first-team football, and it seems to have helped his development significantly.

The youngster has returned to be part of Carlos Corberan’s squad this season, and he has made six substitute appearances in the league, all within the past five weeks, as he gains the trust of the boss.

Interest grows in Tom Fellows

However, despite his increased importance in the squad, there are doubts over the future of Fellows, as his deal with the club expires in the summer of 2024.

It has been reported that Albion are looking to secure the player on a long-term deal, but Leicester and Southampton are thought to be monitoring his situation.

And, they aren’t the only clubs, as Football Insider has claimed that Werder Bremen and Augsburg could look to bring the attacker to the Bundesliga.

Unlike the two Championship sides, either German outfit could reach a pre-contract agreement with Fellows in January, which would see him finalise the move ahead of joining in the summer.

So, it’s something that could accelerate quickly, and it will be a concern for Albion, who will be keen to keep hold of their academy graduate.

What should Tom Fellows do?

This is a big decision for Fellows, and he needs to be very careful with his next move, as he is reaching a critical period in his career.

Obviously, having been with the Baggies since he was a kid, Fellows has a connection with the club, and it will be difficult for him to walk away.

But, he needs to do what’s best for his own career, and the prospect of moving to Bremen or Augsburg will appeal, and we know how good the Bundesliga is for developing players. Yet, you could argue that playing at Southampton or Leicester could be ideal for the attacker due to their style of play.

That means Fellows is in a good position in terms of the offers that are likely to come his way if he doesn’t extend his deal with West Brom.

He must prioritise game time though, as he needs to start playing regularly if he is to start delivering on his potential.

What next for Tom Fellows and West Brom?

With January around six weeks away, things could really move quickly in terms of Fellows and whether he leaves, and his contract situation means he is in a strong position when it comes to deciding what is next.

In the short-term though, his only focus will be on helping Albion, and he will be trying to get more minutes on the pitch under Corberan.

The Baggies are back in action after the international break, when they host Ipswich Town in what will be a stern test for the Midlands side.
