Inter and AC Milan have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to land Lille centre-back Sven Botman at the end of the season.

According to Calcio Mercato, both Milan clubs are keeping tabs on Botman as they look to bolster their squads in the summer window.

The report claims the French club are due to demand in excess of €40m for Botman, who was linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this year.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It will be interesting to see what Liverpool do with the centre-back position this summer. Assuming everyone is back fit for pre-season, Jurgen Klopp will have Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams, Joe Gomez, Ben Davies, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip to pick from. Liverpool also have Ozan Kabak on loan from FC Schalke and the club have an option to make that deal permanent in the summer.

Liverpool will have seven first-team centre-backs on their books if they sign Kabak permanently, whilst also having the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the squad who are able to play there if needed. This means that adding an eighth option to that list may not be a viable move for Liverpool, as too many players will be without regular game time each week.

Therefore, unless Liverpool move on some of their current centre-backs, a move for Botman this summer may not be possible for Liverpool. This could then come as a boost to Milan and Inter in their pursuit of the Dutch centre-back in the coming months.
