According to Maczyki, Legia Warsaw are eyeing a swoop for Mateusz Bogusz. The Polish outfit were linked with a move for the Leeds United midfielder before he ended up joining UD Logrones on a loan deal. Legia, however, are still keen on securing his services in the new season and could be potentially eyeing another loan deal with an option to buy.

Mateusz Bogusz’s Season So Far At UD Logrones

Mateusz Bogusz initially moved to UD Logrones last season, in a season-long loan deal from Leeds United. He was shipped out to the Spanish second division after failing to make a breakthrough in the first team.

A move to Logronoes worked out quite well for Bogusz during the early parts of the campaign, as he was a regular starter for Sergio Rodriguez’s setup. However, things started to get sour after the turn of the year as the Pole struggled to maintain his place in the first team.

As we head towards the final phase of the campaign, Bogusz has fallen behind the likes of Paulino de la Fuente, Andy Rodriguez and Lander Olaetxea in the pecking order. In fact, the Pole has notched up 18 appearances so far, only three of which have come since February.

It appears the 19-year-old’s prospects at Logrones is pretty much over as the club braces itself for a relegation scrap over the next few weeks. Bogusz himself now has two options – a return to Elland Road where he will have to fight for a place in the senior side and or a move back to his native Poland, with Legia Warsaw reportedly on the prowl.

Mateusz Bogusz and Legia: A Match Made In Heaven?

Leeds United could be in need of reinforcements in the creative department this summer as they prepare themselves for life without the ageing Pablo Hernandez while Helder Costa has not exactly flourished at Elland Road this season.

From a tactical perspective, Bogusz’s excellent versatility could be a useful asset for Marcelo Bielsa next season, with the midfielder being capable of operating in a variety of attacking positions, including the false nine role.

Yet, it appears the Pole’s future at Elland Road is seemingly bleak as the Whites would most likely find proven options in the market rather than relying on academy products.

A prolonged stay in Yorkshire, therefore, could halt his progress and a move back to Poland, in that regard, could be a wise move. Indeed, the youngster is likely to get a lot of opportunities at Legia, as he has a good relationship with coach Czeslaw Michniewicz.

Legia may also offer Bogusz an opportunity of making an impact in the Polish league, where a potential breakthrough season could help him earn a place in the national team, especially with the 2022 FIFA World Cup looming large.

As for the club, loaning out Bogusz to Legia seems like the ideal option for Leeds United at the moment, although the Whites should look to avoid the option to buy clause in case the midfielder does make a huge breakthrough upon his potential return to Poland next season.
