Manchester United face setback as Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke reveals Erling Haaland might not leave next summer

Speaking to Sport 1 (h/t Mirror), Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has explained that a decision has not yet been made on the future of Erling Haaland amidst Manchester United links.

The Bundesliga goal-sensation has been sublime for the Signal Iduna Park outfit in the last year and a half. The 21-year-old has scored a ridiculous 68 goals and provided a further 19 assists in 67 appearances for the German outfit.

Dortmund, thus, fought hard to keep the Norwegian at the club over the summer despite interest from several clubs. However, the youngster is said to have a £77million release clause in his contract that will activate next summer, with Manchester United keen on signing him up.

However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has now revealed that there is no certainty over an exit for Haaland next summer. He told Sport 1 (h/t The Mirror):

Watzke also talked about the player’s agent Mino Raiola and claimed that they ‘get along well’.

United, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this summer, still intend to bring the 21-year-old to the club next summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his squad season-after-season, and if the Old Trafford outfit do manage to lure Haaland to Manchester, it would boost the quality in their ranks by a huge margin.
