The Reds announced the news this morning via a post on their official club website. Van de Sanden is returning to the Merseyside club for a second spell after previously spending two seasons with them in 2016 and 2017.
Since leaving Liverpool, Van de Sanden has enjoyed plenty of success. She has won eight major trophies with French club Lyon, including three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, before continuing to play at the highest level with German club VfL Wolfsburg.
On the international stage, Van de Sanden was a member of the Dutch side which won the UEFA Women’s EURO in 2017 and were runners-up at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.
After completing her Liverpool return, Van de Sanden said “It feels amazing to be back. Being back in Liverpool, seeing the girls, meeting the coach, it means a lot to me.
“In my head I was already waiting for them to come back into the first league, I was following them everywhere.
“Coming back, it’s crazy and the ambitions of the club for this team mean a lot to me. A lot has changed since I left.
“I didn’t know Matt (Beard) at all but after my first phone call I knew I’d sign for Liverpool.
“I really love the girls here and I’ve seen that they are working for each other, fighting for each other, they fight for the coach. That was the feeling I got from outside and now I am here I have the same feeling.”
Van de Sanden becomes Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
