Tottenham Hotspur look as if they’ve cheekily trolled their fiercest rivals Arsenal on Twitter ahead of the opening round of fixtures in the Europa League.
Last season, Spurs pipped their north London foes Arsenal to fourth place in the Premier League table by just two points and subsequently qualified for the Champions League.
It means a return to regular Thursday night football for the Gunners and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was very happy about that fact when starring in BT Sport’s advert promoting Europe’s second-tier competition.
In the advert, the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth shot-stopper says “we’re back baby”, before the screen shifts to a graphic with ‘Thursday Nights’ written in huge letters.
No wonder Spurs fans are having a bit of a giggle over it, eh?
And the team’s Twitter admin decided to rub salt in Arsenal’s wounds on Wednesday by using Ramsdale’s “we’re back baby” phrase to promote their Champions League opener against Marseille.
Check out the tweet, which has unsurprisingly gone viral on the social media platform…
Yeah, there’s no way that’s just a coincidence and you have to say well played to the admin. It’s only a bit of harmless banter and it’s executed to perfection.
Spurs will be hoping to go far in this season’s Champions League, especially after being drawn in a fairly easy-looking group.
Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting Lisbon are the three teams they’ll face home and away over the course of the next few months.
As for Arsenal, they will have aspirations of winning the Europa League after their impressive start to the Premier League season.
The Gunners take take on FC Zurich in Switzerland on Thursday evening, with PSV Eindhoven and Bodo/Glimt the other two teams in their group.
If Mikel Arteta’s men fail to finish top of the pile in the Europa League’s opening round, it will be a surprise of epic proportions.
