Europa League Round of 16: Lazio and Roma wait for opponents | OneFootball

Lazio and Roma are through to the Europa League Round of 16, but have a 50-50 chance of facing each other in tomorrow’s draw.

The tournament has followed in the footsteps of the Champions League this season by moving to a new format with all the results going into a single table for the opening league phase.

Lazio finished top of that table with 19 points, ahead of Athletic Club Bilbao thanks to a superior goal difference.

The others in the top eight who went directly through to the knockouts are Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympique Lyonnais, Olympiacos and Glasgow Rangers.

The play-offs were completed today and Roma secured qualification after their 4-3 aggregate victory against FC Porto.

They join Bodo/Glimt, AZ Alkmaar, FCSB, Viktoria Plzen, Real Sociedad and Fenerbahce in the draw for the Round of 16.

In a real shock, Ajax were forced to extra time against Union SG.

As this is based on a bracket system, we already know that Roma will face either Lazio in what would be an extraordinary Derby della Capitale or Athletic Club.

When it comes to Lazio, they will be paired with either Roma or Viktoria Plzen.
