ose Mourinho says his Roma players are "dead of everything" after losing the Europa League Final, before taking aim at the referee and Sevilla’s Erik Lamela.

Mourinho was aiming to become the most decorated European manager in history with a win in Budapest, and looked on course for triumph when Paulo Dybala scored in the first half.

However, as is common, Roma retreated after going in front. Gianluca Mancini's own goal came through Sevilla pressure, and was deserved, as both club toiled through 120-plus minutes of little goalmouth action before a penalty shootout.

Mancini and Roger Ibanez missed their spot kicks to confirm Mourinho's first defeat in the European showpiece, and the manager accused the referee - Englishman Anthony Taylor - of favouritism towards Sevilla as he dished out 14 yellow cards, eight of which were for the Italians.

"I said we'd come out as winners or dead. We are dead, dead of everything, dead of fatigue. It is an unfair result with events against us... the referee seemed Spanish, yellows everywhere."

Interestingly it was Lamela, one of Mourinho's favourites during his time at Tottenham, who the manager singled out after the game, insisting: "Lamela should have been sent off."
