Euro side ‘makes contact’ with Rangers star John Lundstram | OneFootball

Last night’s breaking story of John Lundstram and Trabzonspor’s interest in him has stepped up to contact with him, and the possibility the Rangers midfielder really is now being courted by the Turkish side who are also engaged with Borna Barisic.

Barisic is a thing, no one seems that wound up by losing the Croat whose Rangers time is coming to an end, even if there’s irritation at getting no fee and losing money over his departure.

But Lunny has now joined this, and there’s a few angles here:

Lunny wouldn’t be the first to ‘use’ Turkish clubs to get himself a better deal at Rangers. Scotty Arfield did the same a few years ago, his agent leaking out the idea that Super Lig sides were to make a move on him to get him for free, and hey presto, Rangers gave him the deal he wanted and that was that.

The difference here is Rangers have principally offered Lunny a deal, we understand, but not a particularly enticing one. It’s said to be in line with the pay structure, but the problem is with team mates Danilo and Goldson especially – at £40K Lunny wants closer to them, but the club is very reluctant to go there. Especially given his age. They were both errors. Big errors. And the board doesn’t want to repeat that.

And now we have the Turkish interest, with the Trabzon side making contact to see where the land lies with the former Sheffield man.

So what does this all mean?

It means that the midfielder is playing his cards – he wants the deal he believes he’s worth from Rangers, and Rangers are playing hardball on it. Whether it’s signing on fees, wages, whatever, Lunny wants a sweeter deal given his importance to the team. And it’s hard to argue against that.

And he’s now looking further afield to see what’s what, and how far Rangers are willing to go to keep him.

Lunny doesn’t want to leave, never did, but if the club can’t give him a fair deal, in his eyes, then he’s open to making a switch.

He has all the cards at his disposal, and now the Turks are in touch. We doubt he really wants to go there, but needs must and if they pay him what he wants, and Rangers won’t, that will be his choice for now.

Go to Turkey at a better wage etc, more money, or stay where he wants to be and accept a more modest financial incentive.

We suspect at this point he is now probably waiting for offers from England…
