Germany star is first to reach two goals at this year’s Euros
The race for the Golden Boot at Euro 2024 is just getting going with Jamal Musiala the first player to notch their second goal at the tournament.
In total, 40 players have all scored once including Jude Bellingham, Kai Havertz and Wout Weghorst with four players conceding own goals.
Germany cruised to a 5-1 win over Scotland in the opening match of the tournament, with Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz all on target inside 45 minutes. Niclas Fullkrug came off the bench and got himself on the scoresheet too, on a perfect night for Germany.
Switzerland full-back Michel Aebischer joined Havertz at the top of the table after one goal and an assist of his own in a 3-1 win over Hungary, with Fabian Ruiz involved in two goals himself in Spain’s routine victory over Croatia.
Harry Kane got up and running for the tournament with England’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Denmark, joining Bellingham in scoring for the Three Lions in Germany.
Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and remains the favourite to pick up the award again this summer, but remains without a single goal at the European Championship in his career. He did force the decisive first-half own goal in France’s opening win over Austria in Group D before suffering a gruesome broken nose late on in the match that could see him miss the rest of the group stage.
Romelu Lukaku will fancy his chances of regularly finding the scoresheet during the group stage, but had two goals disallowed as Belgium were stunned by Slovakia. Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a goal at a sixth European Championship despite Portugal’s late win over the Czech Republic.
