The first leg of the 2022 Women’s Euro playoffs kicked off on 9 April and three spots remain up for grabs.

Czech Republic 1-1 Switzerland

It ended honours even over in Chomutov as the Czech Republic and Switzerland walk away with a 1-1 draw.

Both goals scored were penalties, with the hosts taking the lead in the 49th-minute through Kateřina Svitková.

However, in the last minute of the game, Ana-Maria Crnogorčević stepped up to the spot to level it for Switzerland.

Everything left to play for in the second leg.


Ukraine 1-2 Northern Ireland

A hard-fought victory from 49th-ranked Northern Ireland against 24th-ranked Ukraine sees them one step closer to securing a spot at the tournament.

The visitors struck first after just five minutes through Rachel Furness but the hosts equalized thanks to Daryna Apanashchenko.

In the second half, Simone Magill’s strike ended up securing the win for Northern Ireland as they head into the second leg.


Portugal 0-1 Russia

Scorer: Korovkina 51′

In the final playoff match of the day, Russia managed to beat Portugal 1-0 away from home.

Deadlocked at halftime, the hero of the match for the visitors was Nelli Korovkina whose strike in the 51st minute proved enough to be the winner.

With the result, Portugal have everything left to do back in Russia if they want to turn the tie around.


The second leg of the playoffs will take place on 13 April.
