Both of these sides came into this clash at Stadium MK knowing that a defeat would see them leave the tournament at the earliest opportunity.

Denmark were licking their wounds after being beaten 4-1 by Germany last time out while Finland had been humbled 4-1 by pre-tournament favourites Spain.

But it was the Danes who impressed early on with Sara Thrige looking particularly impressive down the right-hand side.

Lars Sondergaard’s side were having a monopoly on possession but inside the first 30 minutes struggled in the final third with only Signe Bruun having one pot-shot on goal.

After a slow start this was turning into a real back-and-forth with Finland having a pair of efforts of their own but Linda Sällstrom fired wide both times.

The ebb and flow went back in Denmark’s direction late on as they looked to force an opener but Finnish goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela was in fine form making one superb save.

Into the second half and the Danes really should have taken the lead on 48 minutes as Pernille Harder crossed for Nadia Nadim, but her finishing was way off as the ball ballooned wide.

Denmark were really got all guns blazing for the opening goal but as with other occasions in this game, their instincts inside the area were nothing short of terrible – this time it was Stine Larsen who shanked an effort wide.

That pressure eventually did pay as Harder found some space inside the area and nodded in from three yards.
