Following England’s Euro 2022 victory at Wembley, Lionesses hero Jill Scott celebrated her triumphant return to Manchester in unconventional fashion –– by working a shift at her coffee shop.

Just five days on from England’s historic win against Germany, the Man City star returned home and got behind the counter at Boxx2boxx coffee in Northenden.

Posting on social media, Scott shared a photo of herself holding a dustpan and brush, along with the caption: “Back to reality and I love it! Shift done at Boxx2boxx coffee shop. Thanks to everyone that came to say hello! Your support is really appreciated.”

Scott also took her medal with her and let young fans hold it as she took photos with them.

What is Boxx2boxx coffee?

Boxx2boxx coffee is a coffee shop founded by Scott and her partner Shelly.

The shop opened in April 2021 and is named after Scott’s role as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country.

“The most important things in life have always been family, football and coffee,” it reads on the Boxx2boxx website.

Understandably, after England’s success at the Euros, business has been booming and Scott’s partner spoke to the Manchester Evening News about the recent surge in customers.

“Since the Euros have been on, obviously it’s very busy anyway if I’m being totally honest, but then when Jill is in the shop, it just goes completely manic, wild,” she said.

“Everyone wants to come down and chat and Jill’s got a lot of time for everybody. I feel like everybody pulls together and comes in. Jill will come in once or twice a week, dependent on training and her availability, really.

“On the Euros, for the day that it kicked off, it went ballistic. We had to have like five staff in, there were queues out the door, everyone was just coming in, from all over the country though.

“We even had someone from Hong Kong, they said that they’d literally come from London to Manchester and came into the shop. Australia too, and it was just for a meeting hopefully. There’s a corner of football, we didn’t want it in your face or anything like that.”

Scott’s incredible career

Scott made her England debut way back in 2006 and has made 161 appearances for the Lionesses in total.

Over the years, the midfielder had come close to major tournament silverware on a number of occasions –– reaching the Euros final in 2009 and the World Cup semi-final in 2019.

England’s victory at Euro 2022 thus means even more to Scott, who previously won the FA International Player of the Year in 2011.

The 35-year-old has played for Man City since 2013 but has spent time on loan at Everton and Aston Villa in recent seasons.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder star will stay at City or move elsewhere for the upcoming WSL campaign.
