Euro 2022: Chelsea's Zećira Mušović slams VAR decision from Sweden vs Switzerland | OneFootball

Swedish goalkeeper Zećira Mušović has slammed a VAR decision made during her side’s Euro 2022 match against Switzerland.

The 26-year-old, who plays for Chelsea in the Women’s Super League, fumed about the decision to disallow Sweden’s third goal on Twitter.

With Sweden leading Switzerland 2-1 in the 87th minute, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd slid the ball across to Rebecka Blomqvist, who slotted it past the goalkeeper first time.

The goal was then ruled out by VAR, however, with officials claiming Blomqvist was offside when Rytting Kaneryd delivered her pass.

According to Fotbollskanalen, Sweden have appealed the decision to UEFA, claiming VAR did not draw the offside line in the correct place. Mušović then repeated the complaint in her Twitter post.

“Our goal yesterday that VAR ruled out because of offside, but where the offside line has been drawn on the wrong (🤬) side of the ball?!

“So we have a VAR room where the ref is being supported, but the same room clearly doesn’t know the rules. A complete joke for the game.”

Blomqvist had already voiced her discontent with the decision in a post-match interview.

“As I see it and as the rule is, it is quite clear that the ball is the most offensive point and then it is not offside,” she said. “But now there is not much to do about it and we won the match.”

It may seem unclear why Sweden are appealing a VAR decision when they won the match, but goal difference could be a crucial decider in the final standings for Group C.

Both the Netherlands and Sweden are level on four points with a +1 goal difference. They play Switzerland and Portugal respectively on Sunday.

Topping Group C would avoid a quarter-final clash against the winners of Group D, which is likely to be tournament favourites France.

Sweden, who finished with a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, are also considered favourites to win Euro 2022.

But they have got off to an underwhelming start, drawing 1-1 with the Netherlands and narrowly defeating Switzerland 2-1.
