FC Barcelona have seven wins out of seven games in La Liga so far this season, with Hansi Flick making a resounding start to life as the coach of this club. Their latest game saw them beat Getafe 1-0 in a tricky game at home.

Robert Lewandowski emerged as the match-winner on the night, showing proper poaching instincts to get on the scoresheet. It was his seventh goal of the campaign in seven games as the Pole seems to be back in his element. Hansi Flick even labeled the €15m-rated forward the best in his position in the world in the last decade.

After a difficult season under Xavi Hernandez last year, one would have been forgiven to count out Lewandowski and write him off at the beginning of the season. However, the 36-year-old has looked back to his very best.

ESPN pundit Julien Laurens, much like everyone else, has mentioned that he is surprised by the way Lewandowski has started this season. Speaking on the Polish veteran’s form, here is what Laurens had to say:

“Lewandowski is scoring again. Honestly, I didn’t expect him to start the season like this.”

The best thing about Lewandowski this season is that he has looked razor-sharp in front of goal. In Xavi’s tactical setup that was positional and rigid, the 36-year-old often found himself as an isolated figure in the center without much service coming his way.

Hansi Flick on the other hand has helped Lewandowski with putting players all around him who create chances on regular frequency. In front of goal, his ability is never in question and the goals are a consequence of the same.

By altering the pressing structure and not tasking a 36-year-old with pressing from the front, Flick has also managed to conserve Lewandowski’s energy through the games and thereby, be fresher in attacking situations.

Barcelona will be hoping Lewandowski can continue the same form going forward throughout the campaign and hopefully, even further ahead. The club should not count their chickens before they hatch though and let’s see how the Pole fares this season.
