Espanyol star makes history in win over Celta Vigo

Espanyol star Roberto Fernández secured for himself a piece of history on Saturday evening.
This came owing to his exploits in the club’s latest outing.
Espanyol marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Balaídos for a La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo.
And, when all was said and done, the visitors emerged on the right side of an altogether impressive result.
In a major boost to the club’s survival hopes, Espanyol put Celta to the sword by two goals to nil, to climb a full six points clear of the bottom three in Spain’s top-flight.
And it was the aforementioned Roberto Fernández who proved himself the undisputed star of the show.
The on-loan Braga star netted the game’s only two goals, courtesy of strikes just shy of the half-hour mark, and just beyond the 60-minute mark.
And as alluded to above, in the process, Fernández made history.
As per statisticians Opta:
‘At 22 years and 283 days old, Roberto Fernandez is the youngest Espanyol player to score twice in a LaLiga away game in the 21st century, surpassing Maxi Rodriguez’s record against Real Betis in September 2004.’
